What does a Chief Innovation Officer do?
As a CIO I have two roles -- serving the residents of Hudson and serving city staff.
It’s also my job as CIO to create an environment where employees are constantly looking for more efficient ways of doing things. The two questions I ask most are: “Why do you do it this way?” and “Is there a better way to do it?” These questions provide the foundation to help transform the mindset of employees and to keep moving the City forward.
In today’s digital economy, technology is constantly evolving and adapting to enhance efficiencies and effectiveness throughout society. As CIO, it is critical to facilitate opportunities for the City to best use technology to problem solve. By nurturing this ideology and working closely with City Leadership, we are successfully establishing a reputation that is rooted in the past, while remaining focused on the future.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
Finding better ways to do things. It is extremely gratifying when a task or project is improved and the individuals involved recognize the success of the process improvement.
What big projects are you working on right now?
Since 2014, I’ve been deeply involved with bringing municipal broadband services to the businesses of Hudson, and I currently serve in an advisory capacity for the City’s Velocity Broadband program. Other initiatives include: IoT Smart Lighting, deploying a City-wide Document Management System, Wireless Fire Detection, and exploring various Virtual Dispatch and Intelligent Traffic Management/Parking solutions.
Favorite thing to do outside of work?
Soccer is a constant in my household. I came to this country as a young soccer player, and it’s great to watch my sons kick around or catch an English Premier League game. Even my dog likes to play soccer! We also live in an area rich in parks and I enjoy hiking and playing golf.
Puppies or kittens?
Puppies! I have a young Border Collie named Tyrion and his energy and antics keep my entire family laughing and on their toes.
